Community projects

Kiwi Kick Stars collaborates with government agencies to deliver programmes to low decile schools and under-privileged kids, helping kids overcome the challenges they face. We help them create good habits, discover the benefits of exercise, and build self esteem, resilience and positive attitudes. We also focus on social engagement, helping them rebuild friendships and confidence, especially after COVID isolation. All these are done through FUN and engaging activities.

Our goals

Our current goals are broadly twofold: we want to grow our exposure so that more kids can benefit from our programmes, as well as offer two new specialised programmes.

Goal one

We’ve seen the positive impact our programmes have on youth and kids in the community, especially those who may not have the means or access to positive programmes and structures and safe environments that support their physical and mental wellbeing.

We want to share those benefits with as many kids as possible. As such, we’d like to grow our exposure so that we can offer our existing programmes in more schools, and a wider range of areas. We want to broaden our delivery to include low and high decile schools, and we’d like to train teachers so they can deliver the programme as well.

Goal two

We have two new offerings in the pipeline.

Girls only programme: Go Girls!

Studies have shown that factors like time pressure and lack of confidence mean that girls gradually participate less and drop out of structured activities at a faster rate than their male counterparts. Some girls never get the opportunity to try out a sport or physical activity. Often, they are reluctant to engage as they feel intimidated by activities where they have to compete with boys.

We’ve noticed that girls are far less likely to participate and we’d like to change this. Our new programme, Go Girls, will provide an environment where girls can experience physical activity and football in a fun, girls-only space. We aim to help them to develop healthy habits and valuable life, physical, emotional, and social skills. Through this programme, we want to encourage more girls to engage with team sports, helping them to feel safe and confident to join clubs so that women’s sport continues to thrive in New Zealand.

Over eight weeks, this programme will deliver sessions to all girls in participating schools. Our coaches will be 70% female and will play a key role in inspiring girls, helping them to develop a healthy attitude towards physical activity and sport. We aim to have a low ratio of coaches to students (around 20 students per coach) which gives us more opportunities to individualise the experience for each participant.
